Planning your dream wedding involves making countless decisions, and choosing the right photographer is a pivotal one. 1. How would you describe your photography style?

Starting with the basics, it's always good to get on the same page with your photographer and make sure their style is in line with the type of photography you like. This could even be educational if you don't know much about photography styles. Asking your photographer to describe their work and compare it to others will help you get a better understanding of what it is you like and don't like.

2. Can we see a full wedding album from start to finish?

I can't stress the importance of this one enough, and i always make sure a couple sees a full gallery of mine before they book even if they don't ask. Just like your friends social media pages, a photographers website is a collection of mostly their best moments, and they leave out the not so polished moments. There's nothing wrong with that of course, we all want to show off our best work, however, as a couple it's so important to see what the rest of the moments on your day will look like. Getting to see a full gallery will give you clarity and set a better expectation.

3. What is included in your wedding photography packages?

This one might seem simple, but it's important to know what you're getting for your money. Sometimes details can be a bit vague on websites so its good to clarify. How long are they there for on the day? Do you get any physical media? Is there a limit to the amount of images you get? All super important questions to know the answer to before you spend any money.

4. How do you handle unexpected situations or challenges?

Getting a rough understanding of how a photographer handles situations under pressure is always good to know. Weddings are some of the highest pressure events of peoples lives, so it's good to know that the person you're hiring can handle it. And Unexpected situations are common, i always stress flexibility and being able to adapt on the fly.

5. What is your backup plan for equipment failure?

Unfortunately technology isn't always on our side and things fail. Asking your photographer how they deal with this situation is super important! What if they drop their camera and it breaks? Do they have a back up? What if their SD Card Corrupts? Do they have redundancy? What if their car breaks down on the way to the wedding? How will they get there? Knowing your photographer has back up plans can help relieve stress and give you the confidence to know they're a professional.

6. How do you coordinate with other vendors on the wedding day?

Communication is key, and having a photographer who actively communicates with planners, makeup artists, videographers and other vendors can be difference between things running smooth or not.

7. Will you be the actual photographer on our wedding day?

This one might seem a little silly but photography studios with multiple photographers are common, some photographers outsource their work, i mean, even us here at LUX have 3 photographers. With that said, it's important to know that the person you're talking to and communicating with will be the person that will be there on the day and if it's not, make sure you meet the person who will be.

8. What is your approach to posed and candid shots?

Understanding how a photographer works with couples and guests should be a big factor in who you book. Photographers could have very similar work but go about directing couples and guests in a very different way. This could have a huge impact on your day and your enjoyment. Making sure you like the sound of how a photographer woks is pivotal. and if you're unsure, book an engagement shoot to be sure!

9. How long after the wedding will we receive our photos?

We get this one quite often, and we're glad we do! Theres a lot of unknown about this side of a photographers work and that can leave couples confused so getting clarification before you book is key.

10. Can we provide a list of specific shots we want?

It's important to know that the photographer you're hiring values your creative vision, it's your wedding after all. That's not to say you shouldn't trust your wedding photographer, you've obviously hired them for a reason and trusting them is so important! But making sure a photographer can be flexible enough to work with you on your own ideas is something you should be asking.
