When Jess and Adam first booked me for their wedding, it was years ahead of their big day. I still remember meeting them for coffee in Durham while they were visiting family. We clicked instantly, sharing ideas and excitement about their wedding. From that moment, I knew their wedding would be a dream to shoot. Looking back, their day at Lartington Hall easily became one of my favourite weddings of 2025.

Discovering Lartington Hall

The wedding day was my first time at Lartington Hall, a venue I had heard so many great things about. It did not disappoint. The staff were welcoming and professional, making the day run smoothly. What really stood out was the venue’s variety of beautiful spaces, perfect for creating a diverse and stunning wedding gallery.

Some of my favourite spots included:

  • The Lodge: This is where Jess prepared for the day. The space is flooded with natural light, which is a photographer’s dream.

  • The Gardens: Perfect for portraits, the gardens offer a peaceful and picturesque backdrop.

  • The Entryway: Elegant and timeless, this area adds a touch of grandeur to any photo.

Bridal Preparation at Lartington Hall

Bridal prep can sometimes be a challenge for photographers. Cramped rooms, small windows, and poor lighting often make it difficult to capture those special moments. At Lartington Hall, the opposite is true. The lodge is spacious and bright, with a conservatory where hair and makeup artists work surrounded by natural light. The decor is timeless, creating a calm and beautiful setting.

One of the highlights was moving to the honeymoon suite to capture Jess putting on her dress. The suite’s large windows and mirrors provide amazing light and reflections, adding depth to the photos. Sneaking through the venue to get to the suite also helped ease the morning tension, making the atmosphere relaxed and joyful.

The Ceremony in the Chapel

The ceremony took place in a charming little chapel on the grounds. The dark blue walls and ceilings create a unique and intimate atmosphere, though they do present some lighting challenges. Using flash carefully helped bring out the rich colours and details, making the chapel’s beauty really pop in the photos.

After the ceremony, the couple stepped outside for confetti and group photos. The venue’s stunning architecture and surroundings make it nearly impossible to take a bad photo here. The natural light and elegant setting create a perfect frame for every shot.

Portraits and Moments Around the Grounds

After the formal photos, we spent time walking the grounds. One of the most memorable shots was Jess and Adam looking out over the sheep in the nearby field. This quiet moment captured their connection and the peaceful countryside setting beautifully.

The variety of environments at Lartington Hall allowed me to capture many different moods and styles throughout the day. From bright and airy prep shots to intimate portraits in the gardens, every image tells a part of their story.

Celebrating the Night

As the night wrapped up, Jess and Adam had a truly special moment on the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple. After that sweet moment, the vibe totally changed as guests jumped in for a fun ceilidh dance. The lively Scottish tunes filled the room, and laughter bounced around as everyone got into the energetic moves, making unforgettable memories that they'll cherish forever.

Why Lartington Hall Works for Wedding Photography

For couples planning their wedding, Lartington Hall offers several advantages:

  • Natural Light: Spaces like the lodge and honeymoon suite provide excellent lighting for photos.

  • Variety of Settings: Gardens, elegant interiors, and the chapel offer diverse backdrops.

  • Friendly Staff: The team supports the flow of the day, helping keep things relaxed.
