A couple of weeks ago we discussed the importance of Engagement shoots and why you should consider booking one with your photographer. If you didn't check that one out, it might be worth giving it a quick read before you continue with this one! This week we are expanding on this a little bit and discussing one of the key parts of your engagement shoot: The Location.

Your engagement shoot is more than just a pre-wedding photo session—it’s a chance to capture a moment in time that reflects the essence of your relationship. And one of the best ways to ensure your photos feel genuine and full of emotion is by selecting a location that holds personal significance.

Last year, I had the pleasure of photographing Claire and Richie’s engagement session at Beadnell Bay. For Richie, this spot isn’t just a beautiful coastal backdrop; it’s a place filled with cherished memories of his childhood and time spent with his late father. Choosing such a meaningful location added an emotional depth to their photos that might have been harder to achieve elsewhere. The images we captured there aren’t just stunning—they’re woven with personal history, love, and connection.

When you choose a location that holds sentimental value, it helps you relax and be yourselves in front of the camera, which in turn allows me to capture the authentic chemistry between you. It can be a place where you had your first date, a spot where you spend your weekends, or somewhere as deeply personal as Beadnell Bay was for Richie.

A meaningful location makes your engagement photos unique to your story. It transforms the shoot from a simple photoshoot to a session that feels like an intimate celebration of who you are as a couple. It’s these personal touches that bring your gallery to life, making each image not just a photograph, but a memory.

Whether you have a specific place in mind for your Durham Engagement or need some guidance, choosing the right location can make all the difference in your engagement shoot. If you're currently planning yours, think about the places that have shaped your relationship, and don’t hesitate to get creative.
